ntam98
Hello to you all.....I hope some one may be able to offer me some advice please?I have a son who is keen to get in to astronomy and he has read many books (like you do at that age), i have looked on a few web sites but i do not know what i am looking for??I have looked at different telescopes and i'm still puzzled, i basically want to get him a telescope that looked like a telescope when i was a youngster, something that a pirate used!!!, no offence intended(they appear more straight forward to use?) i have about £120 or so and want to get him something that would let him see planets and the moon and more if possible in a bit of detail, also would any further kit be of any benefit? Many thanks
philsail1
Hello and welcome to "Stargazers Lounge Forum" "ntam98!"Well, if you want a decent basic (pirate type!) scope to start your son off on his astrnomical adventures, (for the budget you have) this one is OK.http://www.firstlightoptics.com/proddetail.php?prod=ev90az3&cat=29It's from a company with a great reputation for making good quality scopes at reasonable prices, and from a supplier with a reputation second to none!Of course, if you could increase your amount (£) to £145 then this scope http://www.firstlightoptics.com/proddetail.php?prod=s130pmis one that could be really recommended as an excellent starter scope, that would fulfill your sons astronomical dreams for a long time to come.I'm sure you will receive a lot of very good advice from other members soon.Best wishes,philsail1

EA2007
I would go for this bad boy at only £125 you can't go wrong:http://www.firstlightoptics.com/proddetail.php?prod=s1145pmcomes with a motor to track whatever its aimed at and a barlow lens (that doubles the magnification of the eypiece)Also it is a newtonian design which can be used for both planetary, lunar and deep sky observing.....it has more aperture (larger sized opening) than the other ones above so you may be able to see fainter objects.
