EQ Mount For Solar

Carbon Brush

Recommended Posts

I am thinking of using a motorised (not goto) EQ mount for my solar scope.
The mount will not be used for the dark side, so adjustments or modifications are not a problem.

If I turn the tripod south (instead of the usual north) and set the latitude bolt to the midday sun angle (for that day) then the mount (clock drive) should follow the sun track.

This avoids the meridian flip issues (and more) usually encountered with a conventionally aligned EQ mount.

Has anyone done this?

Thanks, David.

Sorry to say it, but it doesn't work like that!

As it's always the Earth spinning on its axis, you still have to point North... The sun follows the same trajectory of the other bodies, only at a slightly different speed.
