First Orion Widefield

Recommended Posts

Alright, first ever widefield shot (without calibration frames) using D5300 with 18-55mm kit lens, 15x2minutes, plus some quick processing in Pixinsight, getting okish result in a Bortle 8 zone, I can easily discern Flame nebula and even a tiny bit of M78. There's a quite number of dust bunnies on the image even after I cleaned the sensor with an air blower, so I believe calibration frames like flats will sort out the problems? Anyway, I will heading out to a Bortle 5 dark site to do some widefield shots, possibly hoping to include the Horsehead Nebula and Barnard's Loop (which seems impossible to me). I am planning to take about 3 hours of data, since the weather will be pretty good according to the forecast.

Thanks for reading, any advices would be greatly appreciated
