I used PsychoBilly's suggestion and combined the colour and B&W results..

You've certainly retained the blue coloured stars very nicely. What blend mode did you use?

I really liked your original colour image. Personal preference but for me the stars are just pushed a little too far in this image

Hmm. I can't remember Martin... I think it was Normal, then adjust the fill amount. Thanks for the comment. I thought I'd give this a try, personally I'm inclined to agree the original colour. The DSS stretch pulled more out of it but it was B&W and I've no idea why.

If find it very useful...

Another "tip" is set the mode to difference whilst your doing the "alignment" and switch it back when your finished.

Also try swapping the order of the layers to see which way round works best...

John, the best way to blend a colour image to a black and white one is to use "colour" as the blend mode. Alternatively you can add luminence to a colour image by using "luminence" as the blend mode
