Using Gradient Exterminator to balance planetary images

Recommended Posts

I accidentally put a video through Autostakkert!3 without using PIPP first. It stacked nicely, but the colour balance was 'interesting', without PIPP's individual channel balancing.

With this and other unbalanced planetary images a remarkably easy cure depends on the background having the same colour cast.

In Paintshop Pro just select the planet, invert the selection, and use Gradient exterminator at its most aggressive, coarse and with 'balance background' checked:

Note that at first the result may appear to have a cast opposite to the original.

If you forget to invert the selection you will get a very 'interesting' result!
