Fieldsy,

A Canon DSLR for example contains two filter elements....

One is a colour balance filter (See filter #2 below) which effectively reduces the red response - to give "more realistic" natural images for the family. This is the one that is normally removed to improve the response to the red and H alpha for AP.

The second filter (See filter #1 below) is a dust shaker/ anti alias filter (which is also a pretty good UV-IR filter) and this is normally retained.
