Scope suggestion

Hey guys,

My brother moved to Cyprus recently and after having seen the full Milky Way there, it seems to have sparked an interest in Astronomy, so he has asked me to recommend him a scope for around 300 quid.

I was thinking of recommending him a 6 " or 8" Skywatcher Dobsonian. Do you think the 8" would show that much more than the 6"?

Also, does anyone have any recommendations on which shop to purchase it from? I would use FLO but it doesn't look like they deliver to Cyprus.

Yes, an 8" Newt will give noticably better views than a 6". If Flo can't deliver maybe Telescope Service in Germany might be worth a try, they ship quite a lot abroad??

I also had a look at teleskop service, but it looks like they only do GSO dobs. Has anyone tried them? Would they be nearly as good as a skywatcher?

Optically they are probably on a par with Skywatchers, both have mass produced mirrors made in China/ Tiawan. Synta make the Skywatchers, Guan Sheng make the TS scopes. I owned one a few years back (from TS as well) and it was a decent scope.

Cheers Gaz. I think he'll have difficulty getting a telescope to Cyrus as Teleskop Service don't seem to deliver either!
