Today's H-alpha sun 18.3.18

As I further fine tune my [still rather crude] modified PST/ D-ERF/ CR150/8 setup I'm getting more detail.

Cemax 12mm for 100x with effective 120mm f/10 aperture on a driven Fullerscopes MkIV mounting.

Tall [windsurfer sail] prominence at my 1 o'clock bounded by much smaller spikes.

Another small prominence at my 6' o'clock.

A dark, wavy, low contrast 'streak' on the disk at around my 8 o'clock.

Big cumulus clouds keep crossing my sky but I'm getting much better seeing than yesterday with the sun at only 32° high at 13.00 [CET]

The 40mph gales of the last few days have dropped to 25mph with still close to freezing temperatures here at 55N.

No luck yet trying to capture images with a handheld P&S camera.

Are we having fun yet?  :glasses9:

Thanks. You're a smidgen further north than me, but only just.

I'd promised myself some solar observing to avoid freezing at night.

I'm still getting frozen! And wind burnt! This can't be normal.

But at least I can see what I've just tripped over.

A frozen extension cable! :laugh2:
