Dew heater bands

Recommended Posts

Hi

Our Society has been donated a quantity of equipment and my task is to sell some smaller items to members.

I have a large dew band which I have estimated should fit a 16" tube and one member wants a 12" band.  I have measured the band round a 12" metal tray and find that there is an overlap of about 4-5".  If the band were fitted to a 12" tube it would mean that the overlap would be double thickness for the 4 to 5".  Would this cause the band to overheat? (I don't want to be the cause of damaging a fellow observers telescope.)

Also I am not sure what telescope he has so may I ask where the band needs to be placed.  In the case of an SCT with a corrector plate will it be around the corrector plate area, if  Dobsonian around the mirror and would a secondary smaller band need to go round the secondary mirror?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Tony

I have a 12" Heater band on my 9.25, I have had it 2 year no problem, I wrap the band around the OUTSIDE of the dew shield near the objective and just increase slightly from my Kendrick controller, never had a problem with objective misting up.
