Captain Chaos, I use a MEADE LPI for high mag shots of the moon and planets thats just really a fancy webcam I guess, but for widefields I'd use your D50 on your 120mm refractor, you should be able to get some great images, most of my DSO's on here were taken with my 350D on my Megrez, I've even managed to catch the horsy in 1 of them, will post that shortly.

Is the horsey using a filter? Only i can't get the flippin thing. The sky goes all red before the exposure is enough to catch it. And you're even worse off than me for light pollution I would guess, being in Leeds and all that.

Yeah, gotta admit it was taken using a CLS filter, details as follows

Megrez on EQ5 2" t-adapter to 350D CLS+VH1 filter

3 x 90 seconds at 1600asa.

Must say the CLS filter is one of my most treasured items for imaging it makes a huge difference.

Also, look for W3CTRL - it allows much finer control of the gain/brightness/saturation, etc that the standard philips driver.
