Hi all,

Got a clear night last night so finally got a chance to have a try of the HEQ5 mount.

It maybe cause it was my first time using an eq mount but I found it quite difficult to move the scope where I wanted it to go!!

Anyone any tips or advice??

Deacon,

I share your frustration. Try balancing the scope on the mount i.e. when both clutches are loosened you should be able to move the scope with your fingertip. The link that Mike gave is good, it shows the movements required.

Good to hear that you had clear skies. You must be resident in Hubble!!!

They can be tricky to get the hang of - even after messing about with mine for ages I still sometimess have problems finding the clutches in the dark.

The trick with any astrogear I find is to be super familar with it - its easy enough in daylight but in the dark you just have to know where stuff is. As already said practice is the key.
