PixInsight - DynamicBackgroundExtraction (DBE) tip

Recommended Posts

I just learnt something today by accident. If you make a luminence copy of your linear image (ChannelExtraction), stretch it quite hard (as though you were making a mask) and use this as your template to generate your DBE (drag triangle to the workspace), the tolerances work much better at detecting nebulosity and bright stars and avoids them. I know you can achieve the same thing with the linear image but I find the tolerances have to be quite high and I still have to manually review every point. Now I only have to review and few, and the harder stretch makes it easier to see what to avoid. I guess this works especially well if you have a Ha image and you can use that to apply to your RGB.
