Alternative Ascom Focuser Hardwear?

Hi Folks,

A while back I started to amass the components needed for the Ascom focuser project but whilst looking at the new Raspberry Pi I wondered if this stepper motor hat could be flashed with same ascom software and do the same job? 

Any ideas?

I would say yes. Based on this find.

I'm waiting on parts to get going with my own focuser. And I've ordered extra because I'm thinking about also automating my filter wheel as well. Although, my direction is with Arduino PCB's (UNO and NANO). And I'm only beginning to grasp these and automating with electronics and the simple programming. My raisin isn't what it use to be I'm afraid.

I want to know if it was flashed with the software for the focuser would it achieve the same outcome, the only obvious missing section would be the push buttons on the unit but if you are removing the scope it's done via the PC.

I built a Pi mini server to leave outside instead of the laptop and it works well but it's an older Pi and maybe an upgrade is on the cards, more RAM and more USB ports.
