Split and recombined channels in DSS

Bit off the wall this one. Is it possible to split multiple images to LRGB channels in post processing software, stack them and recombine to align differences caused by CA?

I believe I have seen that technique used in PixInsight. I read it in their forum, if I recall correctly. Can't find the post though.

I have tried it as well on occasion, but never had much success. If focus is different for the R, G and B channel, this can't be corrected by realignment.
