IC- r8500 - Views

Recommended Posts

So after research Im going to start with Radio Meteor Detection and then advance in the future

So looking for a decent receiver

Options for Continuous Wave (CW) and Single Sideband (SSB)
An external aerial input socket
An audio line output for connecting to a computer
An adjustable audio filter for the signal, allowing it to be taken down to 3 KHz or less of bandwidth

Ideally needs to cover

Meteor Detection - 30 MHz to 150 MHz
Jupiter - 10MHz to 40MHz
Solar - 73 - 74.6 MHz

Research has led me to the IC- r8500 - http://www.icomuk.co.uk/ic-R8500/Receiver-Scanner_Base_Station

Does anyone have any experience with this or indeed any opinions

Regards

John B
