Ideas on building a magnified Telrad finder?

I am distracted by the idea of a Telrad like finder with both the degree markers and just a bit of magnification / light gathering ability.  In my suburban back yard I can only see stars down to 3 or so magnitude and I'd like to get some shorter hops for my Z10.

The illuminated degree marker is probably my tripping point.  Unless I am thinking of things backwards mounting an archery or rifle scope does not seem difficult.

I'm not sure if a Telrad works as designed if other lenses to give some magnification are added. You could fit an illuminated degree eyepiece to a standard 9x50 finder.
