M83 - Southern Pinwheel Galaxy

Hi all,

I had another go at a galaxy over a couple of nights. The total exposure time was 6 hours and 50 min in a mixture of 10 min and 7.5 min exposures. That's a record for me so far :) ! I was however rewarded with my best galaxy yet. I still find them a tough task for the ED80. One day I will have to get a faster Newtonian...

That's a 100% crop.

Thanks for looking!

A barred spiral !! These are so beautiful. Very well done ! I loved the colours too.

Thanks Ishan! I find galaxies very special. Nebulae are nice but galaxies are something else. 15 million light years! And to have a spiral galaxy from the top - magic! Unfortunately, a lot of the good galaxies (Andromeda, Triangulum) are out of my reach...

I, too, am a galaxy lover ! Ya we northerners have more galaxies up here. But you could try virgo cluster. I have only imaged Andromeda, Whirlpool and M64 till now.  Other galaxies are too small
