December 21, 2015: H-alpha lunch session

I had another look at the sun together with two PhD students just before lunch. The surge on the east seems to have subsided, but in its place is a fairly small but bright, complex knot of proms. The plage area it is attached to is also very bright. Further south, just this side of the limb another bright plage area has emerged, near a spidery network of detached strands of plasma forming a roughly triangular prom. Apparently there are two active regions crossing the eastern limb at the moment. To the north of the northernmost AR there is another faint prom visible. Hopefully we will get some more clear skies (forecast not looking good) so we can enjoy these new ARs more fully.
