Stacking widefield images in DSS

My laptop isn't the quickest at the best of times, but trying to stack some widefield images I took of the Milky Way last night and each images takes about 2 minutes to register in DSS; there are 176 of them! I could be here sometime.

I'm guessing it's the sheer numbers of stars in each frame. It seems to be detecting about 30000 stars per image. Is there a quicker way?

I usually drag the the star detect slider up to about 70% to get the detected number of stars down to about 500, it seems to work fine then.

Mel, you are my hero!!! I've stopped the process and re-started with 77% and it's detecting about 1500 stars per frame but now whizzing through them at lightening speed
