Nikon D70 for imaging?

Recommended Posts

I have an old Nikon D70 that I had from new, It;s taken less than 3000 images, it's has a 6MP CCD sensor and I was wondering if it was worth modifying it for some DSO imaging?  I did read somewhere that a filter would have to be removed from the sensor? Is it worth the effort or do I just buy a modded Canon?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

hi,

i also had a d70 years ago (great cam at those days!), after that a d300, now a d800 (and a modified d5100).

to be honest, i would not use the d70 for ap.

the d70 does a lot of noise at iso higher than 400. hard to get the pictures sharp w/o live view. no mirror lock-up.

i recommend to get a newer one with all those features. noise ratio should be good with any dx nikon not older than 3-4 years.

cheers from austria,

max
