Crossway
Vis a vis the recent posts on the subject of North American Nebula and the use of UHC / Olll filters I am wondering if the UV ( or haze) filters I used to use on my 35mm camera are the same thing. I still have them.Pete
John
Hi Pete,The UV type filters used in photography are quite different. They let through most wavebands of light apart from UV. O-III and UHC filters for astronomy purposes block most wavelengths of light apart from those emitted by nebulae. They have the effect of dimming stars and other light which makes the nebula stand out a little more.If you look though an O-III or UHC filter in daylight you get a very odd, colourless, apart from a greenish hue, view of the world which I think terrestrial photographers would object to ! Crossway
Thank you for your reply John.....in my ignorance I might well have used a UV filter and not been aware that it did not work. I have learned something really useful today.!Thanks againPete
