Mick, sometimes images tell more than words

Graem, If you open the image in full resoltuion mode in Astrobin you will see that the problem isn't focus. The spikes of yellow star are very thin.

What can cause appearance of out of focus is the resolution (image scale) of the photo. it is around 0.65 arcoseconds per pixel with an atmosphere not calm. The refraction distort the airy disk of stars. And as I use HDR curve when converting 32 bits from DSS to 16 bits Photoshop CS3 the border of stars have a bit of blur distortion.

This photo had a little  45 degrees drift. Normally I do with 4 minutes ISO 400 or 800. This photo was an experience to see what I get with 10 minutes.
