Is my calculator accurate?

Recommended Posts

It's definately precise, but I'm not sure if the maths is accurate. https://www.desmos.com/calculator/z4gydn9bd5

The bit I want to make sure is accurate is the stuff relating to resolution at the bottom, it's not quite lining up with the result from http://stellafane.org/tm/newt-web/newt-web.htmlalthough it could just be that it's basing its results off a different wavelength (basing mine off Ha)

Key:

  • f = focal ratio
  • l = focal length
  • a = aperture
  • k = eyepiece focal length
  • P = exit pupil
  • m = magnification
  • R = angular resolution in radians
  • r = angular resolution in arcseconds

Hopefully I got it right, getting it into degrees was a little bit of head-hurt for me (the initial equation sin (1.22 x wavelength / diameter) outputs in radians :embarrassed:.

I made this first to try and work out stuff to do with different size telescopes as far as brghtness was concerned, but now I want to use it to work out the theoretical limit of telescope optical resolution.
