Polar illuminator won't fit HEQ5 hole

I bought a polar illuminator but it doesn't fit my old black HEQ5, it seems that it only fits the newer white HEQ5's. Does anyone know of a mod I could do to make it fit, ie. attaching it to something else that would go in the hole or another idea? Before anyone asks, yes I've put it in the correct way round, I've tried both actually before I knew which was the right way. I would quite like to keep it if I can find a mod for it but if not I would consider making my own DIY polar illuminator if someone knows how.

That's the one I've got which doesn't fit.

Think I may have just found a way. I've just tried an old 35mm camera film container and that slots snugly into the HEQ5 hole, and I think I can glue the illuminator to the film container. I'm going to try it out with no glue to start to see if it works, then glue it if it does. I'll let you know how I get on.
