sadly the information in the article is incorrect the real information is as follows

This article isn't well researched... The GMT won't be the biggest telescope ever. The European Extremely Large Telescope and the Thirty Meter Telescope will be much larger. 

The GMT will consist of 7 primaries of 8.4m, not 25m as is the article... This gives a collecting area of ~370m², while the TMT will have a collecting area of ~650m² and the E-ELT will have a collecting area of almost 1000m².
