My first BIG prom but i cant get it right

Caught a very nice prom yesterday afternoon but there has got to be an easier way than what I am attempting to in combining both images.

How DO you get that nice fine bright orange line between the prom & surface shot ?

I just make a mess of it.

It was late in the afternoon so please forgive the not so good image, just practicing my processing of solar really.

Any tips on this would help me out greatly thank you.
