Greetings Matt and welcome to the forum. There are many books on astronomy out there but my experience is a lot of them only offer a general overview of the hobby. Once you really get going you'll probably start looking for some focused on specific aspects like image processing and such. These are less plentiful but are available and typically provide more specific info and advice. Just sayin...

Otherwise, you could just take advantage of all the great info on this forum and save yourself a few bucks to put towards new gear! :)
