Herefordshire Astronomical Society - proposed programme

Following the successful launch of the Herefordshire Astronomical Society (HAS) a steering committee has met and decided the following:

The Society will have its meetings on the first Thursday of every month – at the Kindle Centre , Next to Asda Store, Off Greyfriars Bridge, Hereford.

No meeting in July / August – an annual trip instead organised for July.

Proposed dates / topics / speakers for the remainder of 2008

Thu 1st May History of the Telescope (Paul Haley) + members bring own equipment

Thu 5th Jun Cassini at Saturn (Gerry Workman) (or Climate Change / EarthWatch talk)

Sat 5th Jul Jodrell Bank visit (Paul Olver)

Thu 4th Sep From Galileo to IHY (Paul Haley) + Solar Eclipses (Mark Chamberlain)

Thu 2nd Oct Life in Space (Martin Griffiths) (or Paul Olver)

Thu 6th Nov Annual Webb lecture – Exoplanets (speaker t.b.a.)

Thu 4th Dec Star of Bethlehem (Martin Lunn)

Proposed subscriptions

Annual membership of £7 (adults) / £3 (juniors) – payable in June – to cover speakers expenses.

Meeting sub of £1 (adults) / (juniors free) – to cover room hire & refreshments.

All individuals welcome to attend. Lets make this new astro society a success in Herefordshire - a county with good dark skies.
