Beating sound after remesh

Hello everyone,

i did a regrease of my Skywatcher Neq6 Mount following AB`s guide (thanks alot, you are awesome!). I adjusted the worm gear in the RA axis to very little play and no binding on 360° rotation. When i rotate the RA with the hand controller at highest speed (9) i get a slight beating sound on top of the usual noise. I wasn`t able to try the guiding performance of the mount due to bad weather. Is the beating sound something i have to worry about? In addition: As long as there is no binding occuring, is there any disadvantage to a fairly tight gear mesh?

Did the beating sound appear when the scope was attached? And if so what scope do you have?   I ask because I get an amplified sound through my 10" Newt.

Actually you are right. The beating sound appeared when i mounted my 8" newtonian telescoped plus guide scope. So, as you are experiencing the same phenomen i probably shouldn`t worry, right?

I would have thought it is OK, but it really depends on what you mean by beating sound?  The sound I get is (I presume) the sound of the steps amplified in the scope, but does portray as a deep rhythmic sound.

Saying all that I just have, it is worth taking note that I have done the Rowan belt mod on my mount and any sound you may encounter could be produced by the gear wheels.  This could be down to one of them not being secured enough and that might reveal a beating sound.  But again it comes down to what you consider a beating sound?

Hello,

by beating sound i mean an increase and decrease of the normal gear noise with a period of maybe 1 second. Not sure, but maybe it is related to the worm being attach slightly tilted?

That could be down to what is called worm float.  Try giving the worm retaining nut (under the black screw in cap) a quarter turn clockwise and see if it reduces the sound and still does not bind.
