The Photonics Industry has been buzzing about this for a while. I kind of imagined it being accompanied by a huge increase in unnecessary outdoor lighting 'projects' + the associated increases in Light Pollution.

I'm sure to some degree that will happen but it's good to see that Light Pollution awareness and prevention will also form part of the International Year Of Light activities.
