VigdisVZ
A combination of cheap mount and polar alignment. Even perfect alignment wont help budget mounts, the worm gears arent machined to that quality. Thats why people use guide setups or buy really really expensive mounts. If you can take 30sec to 1 minute subs without the stars being eggy, you should be happy. I can stretch my NEQ-6 to 90sec up to 2 minutes unguided if I'm lucky.Would still be interesting to see one sub.
Froggz
Thank you Brown Dwarf. I have compressed a sub but still slightly too big to download here (!). I'll try again.

uhb1966
I have pondered a considerable time (yeah, im kinda slow, im a computer scientest), but....I think it starts moving at "normal" rate = 1x when you turn it on and the switch 2-4-8 controls what happend when you push the buttons, i.e. switch to "2" + press button = scope moves at 2x normal rate to the direction whose button is pressed etc....guess its easiest to try it out
uhb1966
Thank you! I realise that after a while, say one hour, the object has moved from the centre to the right of the pictures, and slightly upwards. I thought it was the incorrect speed of the motors but it now seems that itwas the polar alignment, is that correct?yes. it would move out much faster ...sorry, it seems i was way too slow with my response... just ignore
Froggz
Thank you uhb1966, it surely makes sense! I decided to check the polar scope and of course ensure my polar alignment is accurate. I wish I could get a better mount but it will not happen soon ... I'll also download DSS beta and try my best!I have to say that everyone has been so friendly and helpful. Thank you ! The second as RAW (not sure what the line across is. It was on that shot only.. something passing?)Anyway these subs are very poor but sort of show more than one issue. May I pls have your comments? Thanks!
uhb1966
The line is a passing satellite, or debris. The second pic looks a bit more washed out- did you take both with the same iso and exposure?
uhb1966
They both show star trails, too - as already mentioned, suboptimal polar alignment, i guess.
Froggz
The second one was taken the day after the first one with the same iso (1600) and exposure.. the second one seems worse in terms of star trail, doesn't it? I'll have to spend more time on alignment.
uhb1966
Yep, the trails in the second one seem to be larger!
