Why would I need to change the Dec guide rate?

I am guiding my NEQ6 with Maxim DL via EQMod pulse guiding. I normally have both RA and Dec set to 0.2 and it works perfectly. For some reason tonight I repeatedly did not get enough Y movement to calibrate, despite increasing the guide time and aggressiveness. In the end I put the. Dec pulse guide rate up to 0.5 and that did the trick but now I have a lumpy guide graph.

I am grabbing 20min Ha subs of the Elephant Trunk and my stars are round enough for me but I would love to know what has occurred.

I am using a QHY5 on a SkyWatcher 9x50 finderguider and imaging with an SXV-H9 on an Explorer 150P.

I have flipped the mount and it's now back to normal. Perhaps it's a balance issue?
