Declination motor behaving weirdly

Hoping some one might have an answer to this one. My Dec motor on my elderly non-goto CG5 mount has suddenly decided to go in one direction only. It doesn't matter whether I press the N or S button the drive always goes in the same direction. I have switched the RA and Dec cables but the Dec motor still plays up, indicating it is not the hand controller at fault.

Before I start dismantling things, does anyone have any idea?
