Are you taking moon & planetary images?  If so, then Registax is ideal. If not, then Deep Sky Stacker is a much better starting point.  If you are using a Canon DSLR then start off at ISO 800 or 1600 and take the longest exposures you can before stars start to trail.

Here is a good intro to Deep Sky Stacker without the complexities of darks, flats, bias frames (which can all be learnt later):
