Triggered by a view of Mars, shown by my father under tropical skies, I got hooked to the stars. At the beginning of my carreer I graduated in astronomy at Leiden University. Subsequently I moved to (software) industry, partly abroad. Then, near the end of my carreer, I took up astronomy as an active hobby. Wondering if returning to an old love, would work. It did. Sensor technology, electronics, and computers make observing and interpretation exciting. Things I only knew from publications are now easily done "at home". E.g. imageing the Balmer sequence, routinely catching Pluto moving trough it's dense starfield, picturing spiral structure including occasional super novae....
