Jessops eyepiece in bits,

Recommended Posts

Hi and welcome

I think most likely the three longer bolts are for the three holes at the base of the focuser body. They are different lengths but could have been replaced at some point. Focuser goes on telescope tube, 3 bolts in the three holes, and then attach the nuts inside the tube (point tube down so opening is lower than the mirror end in case anything falls while repairing. This could damage the mirror.)

The large bit top left with the thread could well go on the focuser draw tube (silver tube) and is probably held in place by the thumbscrew (bottom right).

The four remaining small screws I suspect go in the four small holes in the black ring (center right just below the eyepiece) and this and the bits of glass are what is left of the actual eyepiece although re-assembling this will be a nightmare as the order of glass is important.

Hope that helps at least a bit.

cheers

Chris

Hi and welcome to SGL.

The eyepiece parts looks like there's two glass elements and a spacer ?   The spacer probably goes between the two glass elements.

The uppermost glass element ( nearest your eye ) will likely be the one that's dirtiest, and the dirty side will tell you which way up it goes ( unless you cleaned it of course ).

It may be possible to discern which way round the parts fit from this - http://quadibloc.com/science/opt04.htm  scroll halfway down to see the optical plan of various eyepieces. Look for which way the optical curve is on the lens elements.  It will be trial and error to see if the image looks ok when everything is assembled and you are looking at something, try during the day on land objects.

Finally, good luck, Ed.

What did you take it apart for?!!

Can I suggest that you lose the yellow duster - they produce a lot of lint, fluff, fibres that will end up inside your re-assembled eyepiece. Use a cloth from an opticians (for cleaning spectacles) if you have to use anything.

Good luck!
