Celestron Wedge\Pier adapter???

Hi all,

Im currently building my 1st observatory, i have a cpc800 and the old style celestron wedge. 

I will be making my own pier but im not sure if i need an adapter plate for the wedge or if i can just bolt the wedge straight on to the pier.

My concern is that if i just attach the wedge to the top of the pier i will loose the ability to adjust the azimuth adjuster
