Hi all

I was messing around with the NGC/IC data from this excellent site http://vizier.cfa.harvard.edu/viz-bin/Cat?VII/118 in order to select some targets to hunt for. I ended up putting together a spreadsheet that lets you plug in the details of your imaging setup then calculates what % of your chip's horizontal size the widest part of the target occupies. You can then sort or filter as you wish e.g. all open clusters mag 8 or brighter that will occupy >30% of my DSLR chip with my f4.72 scope yields the following list of targets:

Attached in XLS format; there are some gaps and possibly some errors but it gives you a general idea.

Oh and in the NAME BOX (top left next to the formula bar) you can select 'data' from the dropdown to quickly select all the data for filtering/sorting.

cheers
