I might take the mount apart and take it to a local machinist. They surly won't charge the earth to drill and tap the hole to fit gunners kit

Just a tip for when you remove the plastic covers on the mount (the ones with neq6 and the alt scale). I used a hair dryer on hottest setting and blasted the covers for about five mins. It seemed to loosen the adhesive enough to get them off with minimal damage.. the instructions included will make it an easy job for a machinist, If I can do it, it's not that hard , although I completely understand you being over cautious, if you're anything like me, it was a big investment. good luck.

as a side note, the problem I had was not the bolt bending but slipping over the end of the "tongue".
