DIY 102ED refractor solar filter mount

I have discovered that a Floplast black socket plug is the ideal size to fit in a 102mm screw fit refractor dew shield.

It can be used as a replacement end cap, cut down to form an aperture mask or in this case a white light solar filter.

The advantage as a solar filter is that it sits within the dew shield and I have built up any slack with insulation tape then a final layer of self adhesive Velcro loop.

This means that in use it will be very safe as it cannot be blown off.

The solar film is held in place using silicone sealant to the front and rear faces. And to finish it off, the inside is flocked as the inner face of the plug is quite shiny.

Well pleased with the result and I'm looking forward to first light

Note gap cut in Velcro to allow air to escape when inserting into the dew shield.
