mak cool down ??????

am i missing something here ????????

why am i told that maks need to cool down 1st for an hour or so.....

then when im setting up i attatch my dew strip & switch on to keep the moisture @ bay

could someone please explain this to me as it makes no sense @all

if the mak has been in the house its probably getting on for 20 degs, the dew strip will keep the tube anywhere near this warm.

so the cool down is to take it to near enough ambient & the strip is to keep it just above ambient. cheers for that it makes sense now

The strip is to take care of the front element, but the cool down relates to the warm air that is inside the ota. The temp inside and outside needs to equalise otherwise  you will have turbulence inside the scope when you look through it and the view will have a wobble (like the the heat haze you get on a hot day). But obviously you want as clear and steady an image as you can get. I do it with my MAK and SCT every time. It is just one of those things you have to make allowances for.

do you leave the caps on outside whilst it is cooling????? could i point it towards the ground & remove the diagonal to let the heat out quicker??

Yeah. Guess you could do that. Do you have a dewshield? You'll need one.
