Orion 50mm Ha + Mystery Nebula

Recommended Posts

Got out last night to snap this one - moon was fairly near so a bit of a gradient to deal with as well a house getting in the way so lost around half the subs.

This was just 12 x 6min lights // 11 x darks (battery ran out) // 39 x flats // 50 x bias.

EOS 12nm clip Ha filter.

Canon EOS 1000D

ISO 800

Asahi SMC Pentax F1.4 @ F2.8 (going to go to F4 with this next time as had to crop due to messy corner stars)

Astrotrac

DSS + PS

After Orion went to close to the house, I decided to see if I could get away with a 10 min sub on the astrotrac at 50mm. Pointed the camera straight up and shot away. Pleasantly surprised that the stars were nice and tight! and even more surprised to see I have captured another nebula! - So I centred the image and shot away at 6 minutes. Below is the result with the same Darks, Flats and Bias applied.

This is a crop as image was still slightly off centre and corner stars were not so good. I think it might be the Heart and soul nebula? but not too sure? Any thoughts?
