Day time aligning an EQ mount

I wonder if there is a common view on how to use the star drift method of aligning my EQ mount using something like a solar finder?

I was thinking of making my own solar finder for this specific purpose.

The latitude is not much of a problem for me but the bubble level is obscured on my EQ3-2, so I may need to address this first.

You could always level the tripod first, either with your bubble level or with a builders level and then add the mount head after you were happy.
