WHAT APPLICATIONS ARE MOST USEFUL FOR ASTROPHOTOGRAPHY EDITING?:

Recommended Posts

I will soon be working with a Telescope again and, being a photographer, I would like to give Astrophotography a try. I wonder if my present Adobe applications... CS5 & Lightroom  will be useful for editing stellar images. Advice and suggestions are always welcome.

Ciao,

Don

Hi & Welcome to SGL.

Many people are using these programss for final editing.

Depending on what you are shooting i.e. Lunar & planetary or DSO people would take multiple exposures and stack them using Registax or Deep Sky Stacker which are both freeware.

I would recommend the book Make Every Photon Count' as an intro to astrophotography. It is not a simplsitic treatment and there is good advoce in there for both atro dedicated camera's and those of us who use digital cameras such as Canon/Nikon etc.

Firstly you'll need a stacking programme. That can be picked up for free http://deepskystacker.free.fr/english/index.html Many people use this programme. After stacking your data, CS5 will be absolutely fine. That's what I use for the pretty picture bit.

It's a little different to process astro images - Here's a couple of pointers

Hope these help.

Can I just ask why you type your thread title in capitals? It's considered a little rude to 'shout' in capitals.
