Scope on holiday

Recommended Posts

This may be a daft question but I'm going on holiday to marazion on weekend and want to take the scope because it is reasonably dark there but after just coming in from a couple of hours in the garden I noticed the tube was covered in condensation,my question is will the sea air have an adverse affect on the scope in any way?

Just realised I posted this in the wrong place last night, don't know how to remove it D'oh!

Hi rustyjames,

I did read somewhere a few lightyears ago that owners of Newtonian (and other 'open' mirror relector OTA's) that live on, or near coastal areas, have their mirrors recoated more often than those living inland. I imagine the mirror coatings used 'today' are better than those of 'yesterday' and you should be OK! (but don't quote me).

I live very close to the sea and have a reflector and a refractor, and

I have no obvious problems with either, as long as all the moving parts

are greased and you use a dew shield all should be ok, and the mirrors

don't seem any different, If you are only going near the sea occasionally

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Enjoy your holiday and I hope the weather

is kind to you.
