Does the giro need to be 100% balanced??

Recommended Posts

Facts:

- The 6" refractor with accessories is exactly 12.4Kg

- The mount takes up to 22Kg - so in theory I need a max of 9.5Kg counterweights on the other side

Questions:

What will happen if I have 10Kg counterweight on the other side? Which is slightly over the limit

If 5Kg counterweight only enable the mount to move smoothly, while still not 100% balanced, will it over time affect the mount performance?

I know I'm being fussy, just trying to avoid future accidents :D

A little EXPERIMENTATION wiil will reveal that GIRO type mounts do benefit

from the best possible *balance*? ;) Can I encourage you re. the this idea? :)

That said, a scope that "swings with the breeze", can be a tad "untamable". lol

A little "resistance" (imbalance) re. Giro-Type mounts? Do TRY these things...
