Long or Short Dovetail Bar ?

I've just picked up a Skywatcher Evostar 120 EQ5 and it has come with 2 dovetail bars - the long one and the short type. The previous owner had been using the short one - are there any advantages / disadvantages in using the long bar instead ?.

I preferred using the long bar with mine - it was easier to balance the scope by moving the scope forward on the dovetail as one unit rather than loosening the rings, moving the OTA and retightening the rings.

It also felt a little more sturdy to me but thats probably just me.
