VAT & Exports

Recommended Posts

If you buy from the EU I believe you will not pay VAT but you will most likely pay your local or federal taxes instead.

They are normally collected by the courier or PO depending on the service used.

Some items attract duty as well depending on what they are.

I used to buy my large scale trains in the US and when they arrived here they attracted VAT and a fee but no duty.

Back around 2006/7 this was quite lucrative as the £ was about $2 but now courier fees restrict this, plus £ is not good against $.

You should not pay VAT.

I have ordered equipment from the UK and Germany and sales taxes were taken off. But beware your own Customs & Excise will probably tax you instead. The rapacious bar-stewards certainly did when my camera came in from Telescope Service.
