mars on my new dslr

Been trying to get a nice shot of mars on my new canon 40d- but finding it harder to get a nice image compared to my old dsi- but a lot quicker, both shots taken with canon 40d and my lx90- the first using my trusty barlow, and my focal reducer the second shot i found after going through the shots- god know where the diffraction spikes came from!- but thought it looked pretty, taken on bulb at 1so 1000 i think as was mostly playing that night. the second was a much longer exposure as well- but chuffed with the number of stars that came out, and how easy focussing was with live view( although drowned out mars)

Good job! I like the widefield image. Why it has so many spikes? Sorry for noob question

don`t know where the widefield spikes came from- i had my 102 slt out- and was using that for the first time as well as my sct- and i`m not sure which scope took it , but i can`t explain the spikes1( but thought they looked pretty.)
