June 22, 2013: Lots of sunspots in white light, nice proms in H-alpha

Recommended Posts

To my surprise it just cleared up, and I quickly set up the alt-az mount and attached the LS35 solar scope. Lots of activity showed on the surface, and a nice prom was visible on the western limb. To the east, close to the limb, a filament seemed to form an arc over the surface. Several smaller proms were visible, and sunspots and surrounding bright and dark structures dotted the surface. I replaced the h-alpha scope with my 80mm with Herschel wedge, and was struck by the huge number of active regions. The clear patches are too small to do any imaging here, but it is well worthwhile having a look at the sun today. I hope to catch some more sights later.
